Patents
A Patent is set up and granted by the Government if you have invented something new and never before used, it could be a new product, new equipment or even a new way of doing something and you don’t want any one claiming it is theirs. You cannot patent an idea, computer program or a theory.
Trademarks
You need to make your product or business stand out from all others, quality of your service or products need to be easily recognized. You can help distinguish your business by using such trademarks as symbols, logos, brand names signs or sounds. They need to be different from any other businesses registered trade marks.
Copyright
If you create anything that is original within your business, it could be literature, booklets, computer programs it could be artistic pieces of work, photos, films or books then you automatically hold the copyright to them.
Business Banking
When running a business a good relationship with your bank is important. Banks all seem similar, choose the right type of bank but the services they offer can be very different. Some banks will work extra hard to help you set up a business.
Accountants
General bookkeeping can be tedious and time consuming so hiring a qualified accountant can be very useful. An accountant helps with basic bookkeeping, financial statements and tax returns giving your more time to concentrate on the running of your business. An accountant can also help you deal with all your financial queries.
Business Advisors
Business advice is invaluable, especially if your have just started out with your own business. It can be very useful to talk about your problems or experiences with someone who is knowledgeable in the area. A Business Advisor can be used to help you fill in the knowledge gaps/skills you or your workforce might have.
Business Security
The biggest criminal threat to your company is the opportunist burglar. Remember opportunist doesn't mean amateur, these types of burglar can be very experienced and very good at what they do, they simply look for the best opportunity to get in and out of a building with stolen goods. This does mean they are easy to put off.
Importing
Importing of goods and materials from other countries is done for several reasons. It could be that such goods are just not available in this country or even if they are it can be found cheaper to buy from abroad than to obtain them here.
Exporting
Your business could grow and you could then consider expanding your market by exporting abroad. You will of course have to carry out detailed market research in order to know your potential foreign market and whether or not your business could be successful abroad.
